What the market expects from next RP leader

By Manuel Mogato – Reuters

Here are some scenarios on how the top four candidates would tackle the presidency:

SEN BENIGNO “NOYNOY”AQUINO, LIBERAL PARTY

The son of former president Corazon “Cory” Aquino has surged ahead in opinion polls, campaigning on the need to remove corruption and introduce “real” political reforms.

Aquino has an economics degree but no experience as an economist. Though a congressman for nine years, and senator for nearly three years, his track record in promoting legislation is not impressive.

Since announcing his candidacy in September, Aquino has yet to lay down a clear platform on how to address the country’s economic problems. The market is nervous about an Aquino administration because he has little executive or managerial experience.
Some fear his administration would become similar to his mother’s government, which went into a cycle of booms and busts with no clear policy direction due to competing interest groups within her Cabinet.

Aquino has a very competent economic manager, Senator Manuel “Mar” Roxas, a former investment banker running as his vice president. Roxas is acceptable to the market, but the business sector is worried he is only one of the interest groups in Aquino’s circle.

Critics worry Aquino will not run the country but the people around him will be, including his younger sister, movie and television personality Kris Aquino.

  • This is I think the personal opinion of Mogato or to the people behind this … this is I think a bias analysis , primarily because they it raised questions that is precisely the weaknesses of others , like the Platform of Noynoy, they question his platform for a fact that Villar never laid out yet his own , while Gibo has no concrete platform offered except for continuation of GMA programs .
They have questions what Noynoy can do , for a fact that Noynoy offered the best and the only solution to the problem of our country which is the Corruption . Compare to other candidates who never condemned corruption in their life … Gibo in his 9 years in Congress and 3 years in DND , have never accomplish something yet ..and neither he had condemn or even invistigated even one case of corruption and just hide his weaknesses by just saying “There is no corruption in the AFP ”
In General , this article is bias and its primary purpose is to discredit Noynoy ….

  • They never mention also the number one reason why Villar became unpopular .Mogato did not mention the C-5 controversy and other questionable projects to favor the properties of Villar .
They never mention about Gibo that inspite of being the smartest yet he has not accomplished something significant in his 3terms as congressman and 3 years as DND chief . They never mention also that Gibo was the pricipal author to oust the SC Chief Davide in revenge to SC ruling against the interest of Danding’s Coco levy funds .

  • @ Dennis, Gibo is no longer relevant in the Presidential race. With 2% in surveys and with GMA’s weight on his shoulder, he will probably need 20 years of campaign period and a sudden national amnesia or massive delusion of all the voters in order to have a good finish in this election.

Furthermore, yung Ondoy and Ampatuan “fiascos” are eyeopeners for all of us. If Gibo, as national disaster preparedness chuvanes can not handle a single disaster called “Ondoy”, how else can we expect him handle all the disasters for the next 6 years?

Heto namang Ampatuan incident is another blackeye for this guy. It was during Gibo’s term as Department Of National Defence, that a portion of AFP and PNP has become the muchaco and private army of the Ampatuans.

He is, therefore, directly responsible in creating this Ampatuan Monster and the culture of impunity that he sowed in Maguindanao.

  • I agree with you guys. These candidates are not winnable unless the cheat and cheat they will for sure.

  • I think MR. Mogato was paid by Erap to publish this report just only lift up the credibility of Erap. Who believed Mr. Mogato statement? Onother Maceda Expose bilib it or not.

  • Watching Harapan @ ANC right now.

  • “Aquino has a very competent economic manager, Senator Manuel “Mar” Roxas, a former investment banker running as his vice president”…..Then why not let Mar Roxas run for president insteas of Noynoy?..u are indirectly saying that Nonoy really got NO ability to manage the economy of the country

  • @Alvarads, Ask Mar Roxas that question.

  • A good leader must be a good manager….and a good manager must know how to lead his subordinates…

Im currently working here in Malaysia….and i give u the best example of what leader they have…

1)PM Mahathir Mohamad…they consider the greatess leader of Malaysia, he tranformed Malaysia form argicultural base economy into well develop and industrialized country..he also considered as authoritarian leader…dictator..

    2) Abdulah Badawi..he is the successor of Dr. Mahathir, he is consider Mr. Clean,,(no corruption issue to him)..he is soft spoken leader.. under his leadership Malaysia goes into political turmoil….people say his to weak to be a leader….

  • @ Alvarads, the political turmoil in Malaysia started during the last years of Mahathir.

  • @Alvarads, I had been a Manager of Both Business Enterprise and Social Enterprise. In a Business Enterprise, the bottom line is PROFIT, while in a Social Enterprise, SERVICE and BENEFITS. Business Enterprise must be headed by a MANAGER more than a LEADER, while Social Enterprise must be headed by a LEADER more than a MANAGER.

The MANAGER dictates/directs, plans, organizes and controls over everything within the scope of his mandated power and see to it that desired tangible results are achieve at the least cost. He is responsible over the quality control of his company’s products and the well-being of his subordinates, but he is not ACCOUNTABLE to them. He is only accountable to the Owner/owners of the Business Enterprise. The LEADER, on the other hand Initiate, Innovate, Facilitate, Coordinate, Motivate and Inspire his followers for the collective efforts to achieve both tangible and intangible results for whatever the cost. He is both responsible and accountable to his followers.

The Philippines is ONE BIG SOCIAL ENTERPRISE, so what we need of a Philippine President is MORE OF A LEADER THAN A MANAGER. The Charismatic Leader can hire best Managers to assist him run the big Social Enterprise which is the Philippines.

This is where the INNATE LEADERSHIP CHARACTER of Noynoy Aquino is needed to achieve what we all have long sought for, the TRANSFORMATIONAL CHANGE.
