Aquino leads in SWS survey, Villar inches closer at no. 2
by Amita O. Legaspi with Johanna Camille Sisante
Senator Manuel Villar Jr. is now inching closer to Senator Benigno Simeon “Noynoy” Aquino III’s high poll ratings, according to the latest Social Weather Stations (SWS) survey on preferred presidential candidates.
The survey was privately commissioned by House Minority Leader San Juan Rep. Ronaldo Zamora, a Villar ally, and was released to Senate reporters by Villar’s office.
In the survey conducted from December 27 to 28, Villar received a 33-percent rating – six percent higher than his previous rating of 27 percent in the December 5-10 SWS survey. Aquino’s rating, on the other hand, dropped by two percentage points from 46 percent to 44 percent.
Aquino’s camp spokesmen said they were not bothered by the latest SWS survey, which had a plus/minus 2.2 percent margin of error, “because our numbers are stable.”
“It was a slight decrease of one or two percentage points, which is within the statistical margin of error,” said LP spokesman and Quezon Rep. Lorenzo Tañada III in a phone interview with GMANews.TV.
“(The change) is very negligible,” Aquino spokesman Edwin Lacierda told GMANews.TV in a separate phone interview. “Villar’s increase does not seem to come from us because as you can see we have a solid base of supporters. We remain above 40 percent and we have yet to start airing our ads,” he added.

"I am determined to continue the fight started by my father and my mother to see
that democracy takes root and is strengthened in our country. This cannot happen
in a government that serves the interest of the powerful few. We must strengthen
the institutions of government so that they truly serve the interests of our people."

there’s something wrong with the figures..
if you add-up the total percentage on dec. 5-10, it’s 96.2%
while the dec. 27-28, it’s 99.4%!

Juskupo! Gising na Pilipinas!

Let’s keep our faith on SWS irrespective of the results. The surge of Villar’s numbers might be true. We have to work hard on the ground rather than in new media.

Dear All, We must work hard both on the ground and the media.Because the media can influince the undecided ones also. When the campaign period starts, Villar will start to either remain in that percentages or reduce. When the likes of Chiz Escudero will work for Noynoy. When the full report of the senate committee that handled the C-5 case which is different from the senators that absolved Villar.

The fight is not yet over! kung patuloy ang increase ni Villar, dilikado ang candidate natin 11points is not enough kung the other side do some cheating and vote buying.I`m sure PGMA will do all under her power that Villar win this election.I hope Gibo realise now na ginawa lang siyang laruan ni Arroyo.Sana ang taong bayan magising at maintindihan nila na pag si Villar ang manalo its politics as USUAL.

this survey is really dubious. but this might be attributable to the big money spent by villar for print and tv ads during december. people usually take a time off the internet during holidays, hence new media support went down while print and broadcast ads remain the same. let’s see if the trend changes now that people are back online.

Hi Lenlen, I think Gibo knew it! he-he-he! Perhaps he doesn’t care, since he said GMA gave him the biggest break! Now his name indeed is in the limelight.

The other last surveys were not commissioned by anyone, right? Only done independently by SWS? But I remember the very 1st survey before Noynoy has made his declaration it was commissioned by his own family just to know the pulse of the people…
…And this last survey was privately commissioned by House Minority Leader San Juan Rep. Ronaldo Zamora, a Villar ally, and was released to Senate reporters by Villar’s office.
Don’t you think it’s dubious?

pwede rin awie, tama hinala mo. ‘yung before si noy nagdecide, makati business club ang nagpasurvey non, alam mo na, sanggang dikit yun kay tita cory. si ramon del rosario ang nagcommissioned

Hi Net what I don’t understand in this last survey, if Zamora has hands on it? I mean what were the procedures, do you think it is really a very credible result?

@awie: i share the same sentiments. if zamora commissioned the latest surveys, it should have reflected positive results for villar and legarda. but it only showed an increase in villar’s rating, legarda still lagged and even went down a point.

The survey rating of Sen. Aquino is still within the 40%+ range…while Villar is within the 30% range..a difference of 10%. Possibility is that the ratings of Aquino did not drop but rather, in the population selected and surveyed, merong maka villar. Or yung survey respondents mas kakaunti or mas marami kesa sa dating sinurvey. Hindi naman same group of respondents and sinurvey ko determine if there really is a change in voting behavior. Looking at the survey results across all poll bodies, almost identical ang range of points and results…that at least 40% of the voting population will be voting for Noynoy.
Then again, my analysis could be wrong
Awie
11 Jan, 2010
Ewe, your analysis is definitely highly satisfactorily!!! he-he-he!!!
Am thinking indeed they gather the survey mostly in the Regions 1, 2 & 4 where Bilyar’s turf is…although it says nationwide survey. :p

awie, according kay sen.frank drilon, baka slanted ang tanong na in favor kay herMan villar kaya ganon ang result. ang maganda based on my observation, yung 44% ni noy, base lang nya talaga yun. marami pang billions si herMan na wawaldasin kaya be ready kasi dudumi pa ang laro nila. i won’t fault sws dito, aba 3.3m ang gastos ni zamora noh, pera yon, ginagawa lang nila trabaho nila.

It’s I think a credible result ,SWS has its name to protect , but the question lies on where it was conducted ? As they admitted that they have conducted surveys in Regions 1,2 ,4 and 11 . perhaps they gather more data from this area where the Marcoses is dominant . The figure is correct but the random survey is mostly conducted in areas where Villar is dominant . But , NOynoy rating is not considered a downtrend as it falls within the + – margin of error ,however , it boost up villar dahil nga sa area nila kinuha ang data . However , in general ,the lead of Noynoy is still evident .
