An Open Letter To FVR from Lila Ramos-Shahani

Lila Ramos-Shahani is the daughter of former Senator Letty R. Shahani and the niece of former president Fidel V. Ramos (FVR). She is identified as an editor and policy adviser currently living in New York City. She is also currently pursuing her doctorate from Oxford University while working as a consultant at the United Nations.

Lila recently posted an Open Letter to FVR dated October 14, 2009 which has stirred a lot of interest and is making the rounds in the internet. She admires and loves her famous uncle, a People Power icon, but also noted some of the bad marks that he had made.

Lila wrote:

“I thought I would write you because I’m concerned about some things that have been happening at home. I am not sure who you will endorse for president but I know that it will most likely tip the balance again, much in the way that your endorsements have done in the past. I have never felt the need to write you before, although I have always carefully observed your decisions through the years.”

“The thought of your supporting Gibo (or even a Villar/Escudero tandem, for that matter, in the event that Gibo has become too unpopular since Ondoy) was finally enough to make me put pen to paper. Without a doubt, Gibo is “incomparably competent,” but then so were Joe de V and GMA, Uncle Ed — and look what happened. I understand that you supported GMA because you wanted macroeconomic stability in the country above all, particularly in the apparent absence of any viable alternatives.”

“Noynoy, of course, is less than perfect: we all know that. His record is remarkable only in its lack of remarkable achievements, and he certainly isn’t a particularly brilliant thinker or charismatic speaker. But he has never been tainted by any suggestions of corruption and does not appear to have the propensity to throw his weight around. He is apparently thoughtful, respectful and humble, and we can only hope that his lineage will encourage him to sacrifice for the country the way his extraordinary parents did. Because of this inimitable heritage, he is now the one candidate with the potential to unite the opposition against the ruling party. For his part, Mar is no slouch, moreover, and the Liberal Party appears to have some progressive elements.”

  • I share the views and opinions of Ms. Shahani. Nagkataon lang na sa lahat ng candidates, si Noynoy and pinakamalinis and I also feel that that is enough reason to cast our votes for him.

Yung iba, they will even ask you porke daw ba anak ni Cory and Ninoy iboboto mo na? But yes, and why not??? Di na ba importante and FAMILY BACKROUND?

And then there is this overused question, ano ba ang nagawa niya? We all know that Noynoy is a true-blooded opposition since the beginning of his political career. Siempre, his role is to fiscalize and surely this role doesn’t produce road, bridges, schools and other infras. Ang masama is when you have backdoor deal with the administration in order to be credited with so many projects while keeping your mouth shut on certain shinanigans that are happening around you. Bakit and isa sa may pinakamalaking pork barrel ay si Villar and Escudero samantalng opposiion sila? Did they compromise any of their principle in order to gain some favors from the government?

Seguro mas magandng itanong, ano ba ang mga kamaliang kanilang nagawa? The 60% of the voters knew the answer to this question.

  • With or without FVR’s endorsement, Noy is going to capture the presidency by landscape este landslide victory.

  • I am touch after reading the letter of Miss L.Ramos-Shahani.Most Filipino living abroad want that our country make a radical change.I agree that Noynoy need more experience,he can have it when he become President.I`m sure he become a good president. His honest desire to give better life for every Filipino matter most thats the reason he is always number one in survey.
